₹736 Crore Railway Infrastructure Boost & Delhi-Abu Dhabi Flight Grounded
A dual wave of travel disruption and massive infrastructure news hit the headlines this Saturday. While hundreds of passengers faced sudden delays at Delhi Airport, the Ministry of Railways moved forward with a massive multi-crore plan to overhaul safety and connectivity across the country.
Etihad Airways Flight EY217 Cancelled in Delhi
Travelers heading to the UAE faced a major setback on Saturday, September 19, 2026. Approximately 200 passengers were left stranded at Delhi Airport after Etihad Airways flight EY217 to Abu Dhabi was cancelled. The Boeing 787-9 aircraft, which was scheduled for a 9:15 p.m. departure, suffered technical issues that led to its total cancellation.
Following the announcement, passengers were required to deboard the aircraft and seek alternative travel arrangements to complete their journey.
Massive ₹736 Crore Railway Development Projects Approved
In a significant move for national connectivity, the Ministry of Railways has greenlit four major infrastructure projects totaling Rs 736 crore. These projects, spanning Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Gujarat, are designed to modernize signaling, traction, and safety systems.
1. Kavach 4.0 Safety Deployment in Lucknow
To enhance passenger safety, the North Eastern Railway will implement the 'Kavach 4.0' automatic train protection system. This high-tech deployment will cover 607.7 route kilometers within the Lucknow division, with an approved investment of Rs 252 crore.
2. Electronic Interlocking in Solapur Division
The Central Railway is set for a technological upgrade in the Solapur division. A total of Rs 209 crore has been sanctioned for electronic interlocking at seven key stations, including:
- Mohal
- Mundhewadi
- Bale
- Solapur
- Hotgi Junction-Hotgi A Cabin
- Shahabad
- Wadi Junction
3. Traction System Upgrades in South Coast Railway
