Indore Junction redevelopment and new facilities
The main Indore Junction is being rebuilt with a budget of 412 crore rupees. Monte Carlo Limited is executing the project, which includes a seven-story terminal building and multi-level parking. This work is expected to be finished before the Ujjain Simhastha 2028.
Work on the new building at Lakshmibai Nagar station started on June 12, 2026. To make commuting easier, a plan for an underground connection between the railway station and Regal Square Metro station is also being developed.
Current challenges and project timelines
While the overall goal for all four routes is 2047, the Indore-Manmad line has a target of 2028-29. However, land acquisition for this line and the Eastern Ring Road is facing hurdles. Farmers from 44 villages are protesting against giving up their fertile land.
The government has approved 267 crore rupees for land acquisition in Madhya Pradesh. During the reconstruction of the main station, some trains will operate from Lakshmibai Nagar station to avoid passenger inconvenience.
