What’s inside:

Indian Railways is launching a new technology to enhance travel comfort and speed for passengers.

Indian Railways is making a big move to improve train travel for passengers. They are introducing a new technology called Thick Web Switch (TWS) to make journeys smoother and faster. This initiative was announced on November 17, 2025.

The TWS technology aims to eliminate the bumps that passengers usually feel when trains pass over crossings. Currently, when trains go through these areas, passengers experience small jolts, which can be uncomfortable. With TWS, trains will glide smoothly over crossings, enhancing overall travel comfort.

This new system is being quickly installed at 41 locations in the Samastipur division, including major stations like Mukhtapur and Rosda. The project will allow trains to operate at speeds of up to 160 km/h, which is a significant increase from the current maximum speed of 130 km/h for high-speed trains like Vande Bharat.

The installation of TWS will not only make journeys more comfortable but will also improve the punctuality of train services. The project is a collaborative effort involving various departments within Indian Railways, including engineering and telecommunications.

As the work progresses in the Samastipur division, it is expected to serve as a model for future projects across the country. This move is seen as a crucial step towards modernizing India’s railway system.

Summary:

  • Indian Railways introduces Thick Web Switch technology for smoother travel.

  • The system is being installed at 41 locations in Samastipur division.

  • Trains can potentially speed up to 160 km/h after installation.

  • The project involves multiple departments for better coordination.

  • This initiative aims to enhance passenger comfort and improve punctuality.
