Residents of Bhagalpur are set to witness major changes in the city’s traffic situation soon. The Road Construction Department has accelerated the work on the ambitious Sultanganj-Bhagalpur-Sabour Ganga Path project. This initiative aims to solve the chronic traffic congestion that people face daily. The contract for this massive project has been awarded to the Adani Group, with Dilip Buildcon Limited handling the construction under a ₹3,400 crore agreement.

What are the key details of the Ganga Path project?
The new road project covers a distance of approximately 41 to 42 kilometers. It is designed to act as a bypass, which means heavy vehicles will no longer need to enter the main city roads. This will significantly reduce the traffic load in the interior areas. The project includes a 30.12 km ground-level road and an 11.88 km elevated corridor.
This is the first time in Bihar that a road project is being built under the Hybrid Annuity Mode (HAM). In this model, the government pays 40% of the cost during construction, while the private developer arranges the remaining 60%. The contractor will also maintain the road for 15 years after completion. The total time set for finishing this work is 42 months.
Status of Bholanath Bridge and other Flyovers
Apart from the Ganga Path, there are updates on other critical bridges in the city. The construction of the Bholanath Bridge ROB is moving forward, with Sree Ram Enterprises aiming to complete it within a year. This will help end the long waits at railway crossings. Railway Bridge No. 152 is also seeing progress to help emergency services like ambulances move freely.
However, work on the Bausi ROB No. 2 has currently stopped due to local protests in Ward 48. Residents are demanding an underpass instead of an overbridge to save their homes from demolition. The authorities are looking into technical feasibility to resolve these issues. MLA Rohit Pandey has been actively raising these matters to ensure the work completes on time.
