Commuters in Gurugram may soon get relief from heavy traffic on Sohna Road. The Haryana government is considering a proposal to extend metro connectivity from the Gurugram Railway Station to Bhondsi. During the ongoing budget session of the Haryana Assembly, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Krishan Kumar Bedi shared these details while answering a query from Sohna MLA Tejpal Tanwar. The government is looking to fast-track urban transport solutions to help daily office goers and residents.
What is the proposed route for the new metro line?
The proposed corridor will be approximately 17.09 kilometers long. It is designed to connect key areas that currently face massive traffic jams during peak hours. The consultant agency RITES has already submitted an initial report regarding the alignment. This route aims to act as a game-changer for people living in Old Gurugram and new developing sectors.
The main stops planned on this route include:
- Bhondsi Village
- Subhash Chowk
- Rajiv Chowk
- Sohna Chowk
- Gurugram Railway Station
This line will also help people switch to other transport modes easily. The plan includes interchanges with the Millennium City Centre–Cyber City line at Subhash Chowk and the upcoming RRTS corridor at Rajiv Chowk. This multi-level connectivity will make travel across the NCR region much smoother.
What is the current status and budget for the project?
The project is currently in the planning and study phase. RITES was appointed as the consultant on December 4, 2025, to design the corridor. They submitted an initial study report on January 23, 2026. The government is ensuring that the project is technically sound before moving to the next step.
To speed up the work, the state government has set aside a significant amount in the latest budget. The following financial steps have been taken:
- Budget Allocation: ₹300 crore earmarked for Gurugram Metro projects in the 2026-27 state budget.
- Consultancy Cost: RITES was awarded the contract for preparing the report at an estimated cost of ₹1.41 crore.
Minister Bedi emphasized that the actual construction will commence only after the Detailed Project Report (DPR) is finalized and approved. The focus right now is on completing the feasibility studies to ensure the metro line serves the maximum number of people effectively.
