Indian Railways is introducing several special trains to help voters reach West Bengal for the upcoming Assembly elections on April 23 and 29, 2026. These services are specifically designed for migrant workers and voters living in Central India, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and Bihar. The goal is to ensure that citizens can return to their home constituencies to cast their votes.
Which routes are covered by these special services?
The railway authorities have targeted cities with a high population of West Bengal voters. While a broad initiative covers various states, a specific Howrah – Vatva Special Fare Summer Special (Train No. 09482) is operational. This train passes through Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi (VGLJ) and runs from April 23 to May 1, 2026, departing Howrah on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Are there any travel disruptions near Jhansi?
Travelers should be aware of ongoing yard remodeling at Prayagraj and track upgrades at Unnao. These works have led to the cancellation of 13 trains and the diversion of 35 others as of April 21, 2026. For example, the Lokmanya Tilak-Ballia train (11071 and 11072) will be diverted via Janghai, Lucknow, Kanpur Central, Bhimsen, Virangana Lakshmibai Jhansi, and Bina on April 29.
