Indian Railways has issued a clear set of guidelines regarding who can use the reserved coaches for persons with disabilities. The railway board aims to ensure that these specific coaches remain available for those who actually need them. Unauthorized passengers found in these coaches will now face strict action under the law.
Who can travel in SLRD and LSLRD coaches?
Only passengers who hold a valid Unique Disability ID (UDID) card issued by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities can use these coaches. Additionally, Divyangjan who have been granted concessional fare facilities by Indian Railways are also permitted to travel in these reserved sections of Mail and Express trains.
What are the penalties for unauthorized travel?
The railway administration has warned that general passengers without the required disability credentials must not occupy these seats. Anyone found traveling in SLRD or LSLRD coaches without a valid UDID or authorized concession will face strict action as per the provisions of the Railways Act, 1989.
How to add disability details for easy booking?
To make the booking process smoother, IRCTC has provided an option to add Divyangjan details in the Master List on their e-ticketing website. Passengers can save their concession card number and validity details here to avoid entering them repeatedly during ticket booking. All passengers must carry a valid ticket and travel authority during their journey.
