Indian Railways is planning to build new bypass tracks to stop freight trains from entering busy station yards. This move will help passenger trains reach their destinations on time by reducing congestion at major junctions. The Railway Board has already approved a budget of ₹83 lakh for the initial survey of these lines.

Which routes and stations are covered in the bypass plan
The project focuses on the route from Jabalpur to Kota, covering a total length of about 166 kilometers. West Central Railway identified eight key locations for this project to divert goods trains away from main platforms.
| Key Stations Involved | Project Details |
|---|---|
| Jabalpur, Kota, Bina, Guna, Ruthiyai, Sawai Madhopur, Kachpura, Ramganj Mandi | Total Length: 166 km |
| Itarsi Junction | Work currently in progress |
| Survey Budget | ₹83 lakh |
How will this bypass plan benefit common passengers
The main goal is to separate freight traffic from passenger traffic. When goods trains use the bypass, platforms will remain free for express trains, and the problem of trains waiting on the outer signal will decrease.
- Freight trains will have separate tracks to move faster.
- Passenger trains will face fewer delays at junctions.
- Station platforms will be less crowded.
- Waiting time at the outer tracks will be reduced.
What is the current status of the project
Construction is already happening at the Itarsi junction to ease traffic. A small section of 9 kilometers is still pending, and the final survey for this part will start soon. The railways will also integrate third and fourth lines with these bypasses for better movement.
