The Ganga Sagar Express (13185/13186), which runs between Sealdah and Jaynagar, will get a major upgrade. Starting from August 12, 2026, the train will operate with modern Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches. This move follows approvals from the Northeast Frontier Railway and South Eastern Railway to improve passenger experience.
What are the changes in the new LHB coaches
LHB coaches are made of stainless steel and are much safer than the old ICF coaches. These new rakes feature an anti-climbing mechanism that prevents coaches from piling up during an accident. They also provide a smoother ride due to better suspension and can reach speeds of up to 130 km/h. Passengers will now find more space, charging points, and bio-toilets in these coaches.
