North Eastern Railway (NER) has started the process to increase the maximum speed of trains on the Gonda-Gorakhpur section. The current speed limit of 110 Kmph will be raised to 130 Kmph. This upgrade covers a track distance of approximately 158 kilometers.
How will the travel time change?
The speed increase will have a direct impact on passengers traveling between these two cities. Currently, the journey takes around 3 to 4 hours. After the upgrade, the travel time will drop to 1.5 to 2 hours. This will make the route more efficient for daily commuters and long-distance travelers.
What is the current status of the work?
The railway administration is using an RDSO Track Recording Coach (TRC) to check track parameters between Gonda and Baruachak/Motiganj. Senior Section Engineer R.K. Singh confirmed that track inspection is underway. The target date to complete this survey work is June 30.
What technical changes are being made?
| Feature | Current Status | Proposed/New Status |
|---|---|---|
| Maximum Speed | 110 Kmph | 130 Kmph |
| Sleeper Weight | 52 kg | 62 kg |
| Signaling | Existing System | Automatic Block Signaling |
| Distance | 158 km | 158 km |
Chief Public Relations Officer Pankaj Kumar Singh mentioned that 52 kg sleepers are being replaced with 62 kg ones. These improvements will allow high-speed trains like Vande Bharat and Rajdhani Express to operate on this route safely.
