The redevelopment of Ranchi Railway Station is moving forward with the South Side Terminal expected to open by July 2026. Originally planned for an earlier date, the project now aims for completion by mid-year to ensure all infrastructure is ready. This project, laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2022, will change how passengers access the station.
What are the new facilities at Ranchi Station?
The terminal is being built with a budget of 447 crore rupees and will offer world-class amenities for passengers. The station will feature two three-story buildings and a road overbridge to connect the north and south sides. Key highlights include:
- 14,000 square meter parking area
- 10 new lifts and 17 escalators
- Food courts, restaurants, and lounge areas
- Solar panels for 30% energy needs
- Feeding zones for women and play areas for children
When will the terminal and platforms be ready?
DRM Karuna Nidhi Singh stated that the south part should be operational by July 2026. Some floor tile work is still pending, and a temporary shed is being built to finish the flooring before the monsoon starts. While trains have started moving on Platform 6, it will be fully open for regular passenger services by May.
