Indian Railways is carrying out a major expansion of Howrah Junction to improve passenger experience and operational efficiency. The upgrade focuses on increasing platform lengths to ensure that long-distance trains with 24 coaches can stand comfortably. This project aims to increase the overall capacity of the station by 2030.
What are the key platform upgrades at Howrah Station
The railway department has increased the length of several platforms to handle longer trains. While some platforms were previously 312 meters, they are being extended up to 591 meters. Platform 24 is currently under construction and will reach a length of 635 meters, while Platform 14 is now 581 meters long.
| Platform Number | Length / Cost |
|---|---|
| Platform 24 | 635m (Under Construction) |
| Platform 14 | 581m |
| Platform 16 | Cost: ₹15 Crore |
| Platforms 10, 11, 12, 13 | 542m to 591m |
What new facilities are being added for passengers
