Indian Railways is planning a major makeover for around 100 Shatabdi and Jan Shatabdi trains. The goal is to provide passengers with a travel experience similar to flights by upgrading interiors and facilities. The Railway Board has already asked all zonal railways to inspect the coaches and create a time-bound plan for these improvements.
ℹ️: Railway safety boost: 25 teams deployed to monitor tracks in Ambedkar Nagar due to heatwave।
What new facilities will passengers get in these trains?
The upgrade will focus on making the journey more comfortable and modern. Key improvements include:
- Seats: New cushioning, ergonomic designs, and better armrests and footrests.
- Washrooms: New flush systems, cleaner washbasins, and improved drainage.
- Charging: Better charging ports available at every seat for mobile devices.
- Security: Installation of CCTV cameras and upgraded digital information systems.
- Interiors: Better lighting, new flooring, and improved external paint and destination boards.
How will the technical upgrades improve the journey?
To make the ride smoother, the railway is focusing on technical changes to reduce jerks inside the coaches. A significant part of the plan involves replacing old ICF coaches with advanced LHB (Linke Hofmann Busch) rakes in Jan Shatabdi Express trains. These LHB coaches are safer due to anti-climbing features and have better braking systems.
| Feature | Improvement Detail |
|---|---|
| Coach Type | Transition from ICF to LHB rakes |
| Safety | Anti-climbing and advanced braking |
| Information | Digital Passenger Information Systems (PAPIS) |
| Maintenance | Better panels and flooring for hygiene |
