Yamuna Nagar Development: Railway grants approval for long-pending storm water drain project

The storm water drain project in Yamuna Nagar, which was stuck for nearly six years, is now expected to be completed soon. The project faced delays because it required work under the railway lines. Recently, the railway authorities granted the necessary permission to lay pipes under the tracks near Gulab Nagar under the Chandpur ROB.

The project is being implemented by the Municipal Corporation of Yamuna Nagar under the AMRUT scheme. It involves a 4500-meter long drain costing approximately 11.84 crore rupees. About 95 percent of the work is already complete, and the remaining part depends on the railway line crossing.

The drain will divert dirty water from Jagadhri via Kanhaiya Sahib Chowk directly to the ditch drain at Jammu Colony. This will provide relief from waterlogging during rains in several areas including:

• Lajpat Nagar and Hari Nagar
• Vijay Colony and Jaswant Colony

What is the current status of the work?

The Ambala Division of Northern Railway has already issued the tender for this work. DRM Vinod Bhatia has assured that the pipe-laying process under the railway line will start soon. Mayor Suman Bahmani recently inspected the site with officials to ensure the work moves faster as per the Rail Minister’s directions.
