Chhattisgarh Boost: Abhanpur-Kurud Rail Line Now Open!

The Abhanpur-Kurud broad gauge rail line has officially commenced operations, marking a significant milestone for Chhattisgarh's transport network. Inaugurated on October 20, 2026, this new 23-kilometer stretch is set to transform regional connectivity and drive socio-economic growth across the state.
A Major Leap for Raipur-Dhamtari Connectivity
The project serves as a vital segment of the larger Raipur-Dhamtari Broad Gauge Railway Project. The inauguration ceremony was a high-profile event, with Union Minister of Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw participating virtually, while Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai attended the proceedings in person to mark the commencement of operations.
To celebrate the launch, a new passenger train service has been introduced, running between Raipur and Kurud, providing immediate relief and convenience to commuters in the region.
Safety Certified for High-Speed Travel
Before the official opening, the line underwent strict safety protocols. The Commissioner of Railway Safety conducted a thorough inspection on October 17 and 18. Following successful trial runs, the infrastructure was certified safe for train operations at speeds of up to 100 kmph.
The South East Central Railway (SECR) will oversee the management and daily operations of this new line, ensuring smooth transit for passengers and goods alike.
Expanding Infrastructure in Raipur
The day's developments extended beyond the new rail line. In a move to bolster the state's technical capabilities, officials also laid the foundation stone for a new electric locomotive maintenance facility in Raipur. This facility is expected to significantly enhance the maintenance and operational efficiency of electric trains within the region.
