Agra's Achhnera Junction Gets ₹22.50 Cr Amrit Bharat Makeover
Achhnera Junction in Agra is undergoing a ₹22.50 crore redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme to modernize passenger amenities.

Achhnera Junction, a vital station in the Agra division, is undergoing a massive transformation. With a total investment of ₹22.50 crore, the station is being redeveloped under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme to provide commuters with modern, world-class facilities and long-term infrastructural improvements.
Major Infrastructure Works Completed
The redevelopment project, overseen by the Ministry of Railways, has already achieved significant milestones in its structural phase. According to recent updates, several key components are already in place to improve the passenger experience:
- A newly constructed station building structure.
- A 12-meter-wide foot-over bridge (FOB) to facilitate easier movement between platforms.
- Modern platform shelters for passenger comfort.
- Upgraded circulating areas and improved parking facilities.
Focus on Accessibility and Finishing Touches
As the project moves forward, the focus has shifted toward the finishing stages and ensuring the station is inclusive for all travelers. Managed by the Chief Administrative Officer for Construction and Road Safety, ongoing tasks include:
- Final finishing work on the station building.
- Enhancements to the platform surfaces.
- The installation of lifts to assist passengers.
- The implementation of specific accessibility features for persons with disabilities.
A Nationwide Transformation
The revitalization of Achhnera is part of a massive nationwide initiative. In data provided to the Rajya Sabha by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on July 31, 2026, it was revealed that the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme has successfully completed the redevelopment of 261 out of the 1,340 identified stations across the country.
Addressing Construction Quality Concerns
The development process has faced some scrutiny. In May 2025, Fatehpur Sikri BJP MLA Babulal Chaudhary submitted a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, expressing concerns regarding the construction quality at both Achhnera and Fatehpur Sikri stations. Railway officials have addressed these claims, clarifying that the project adheres to strict administrative oversight protocols and refuting allegations regarding land encroachment.
Once the revamp is complete, passengers can look forward to enhanced waiting halls, superior sanitation, free Wi-Fi, and the integration of 'One Station One Product' kiosks, all while maintaining a focus on environmental sustainability.
