Indian Railways approves new bypass line between Adra and Joychandipahar

Indian Railways has officially sanctioned the construction of an 11-kilometer bypass line connecting the Adra end and Joychandipahar within the South Eastern Railway zone. This crucial infrastructure upgrade is set to cost ₹272 crore and will significantly improve train operations in the region. Passengers and freight operators will benefit greatly as the project aims to provide dedicated path segregation and a bi-directional connection to the upcoming third line, ensuring smoother traffic flow across the network.

Boosting Industrial Freight Movement

Once completed, the new bypass is specially designed to facilitate the projected movement of 6.065 freight rakes per day, effectively supporting the anticipated growth in industrial traffic across the South Eastern Railway zone. Specifically, this new route will accommodate the increased freight movement requirements for the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), which has a massive iron ore demand of 23.40 million tonnes per annum (MTPA). Furthermore, the infrastructure project is intended to robustly support the Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL) projection of 45 rakes per day, ensuring timely and efficient supply chains for key national industries.
