Agra Kheria Morh ROB Closed: 3-Month Repair Project Begins

The official Kheria Morh ROB closure in Agra has officially commenced, marking the start of a massive three-month repair project aimed at ensuring long-term safety for commuters and rail services. The shutdown began at 1:00 AM on Friday, October 16, 2026, as railway authorities moved in to address critical structural concerns.

Why the Bridge is Undergoing Reconstruction

The Kheria Morh Railway Over Bridge (ROB) is a veteran structure, having been constructed back in 1970. Having reached its 50-year lifespan, the bridge now requires essential reconstruction to maintain safety standards. The ambitious project, estimated to cost approximately 10 crore rupees, involves the replacement of 12 aging girders situated directly above the railway tracks.

To facilitate this heavy-duty work without causing massive disruptions to train schedules, the railway administration is implementing a mega block. This allows engineers to work on the tracks and girders while minimizing the impact on passing rail traffic.

Major Traffic Diversions and Impact

The closure is expected to impact roughly 500,000 residents in the Agra region. Following the installation of barricades at the Kheria and Idgah sides, the Agra Traffic Police implemented a comprehensive diversion plan effective October 18, 2026. Commuters must follow these new routes to avoid congestion:

For Light Vehicles

Light vehicles traveling between Kheria Morh and Idgah Chauraha are being diverted through the following routes:

  • Arjun Nagar Tiraha
  • Barah Khamba Railway Fatak
  • Rui ki Mandi Railway Fatak
  • Nagla Chhaua Railway Fatak

For Light Goods Vehicles

Restrictions for light goods vehicles are significantly stricter. These vehicles are prohibited from traveling toward Arjun Nagar Tiraha and Barah Khamba. Instead, they must follow this designated path:

  1. Dhanauli
  2. Mulla ki Pyau
  3. Malpura Nahar Chauraha
  4. Proceed to Rohta Nahar Chauraha or Pathauli Nahar Chauraha

For Autos and E-Rickshaws

To manage local flow, the operation of autos and e-rickshaws has been strictly prohibited on the stretch from COD Tiraha to Rui ki Mandi.

Local Traders Express Concern Over Diwali Timing

The timing of this massive reconstruction has not gone down well with the local business community. Many traders have voiced strong resistance, noting that the three-month closure coincides with the busy Diwali 2026 festive season.

"The current alternative routes are inadequate and will lead to massive traffic congestion, especially for those trying to reach the airport," local critics have argued.

Traders are currently urging the district administration and railway officials to improve coordination and develop a more viable traffic management strategy to mitigate the impact on local commerce and daily commuters.
