Ahmedabad Kalupur Station to Become 16-Storey Super Hub by 2028
Ahmedabad's Kalupur Station is transforming into a 16-storey multi-modal hub featuring bullet trains and metro connectivity by 2028.

Ahmedabad is on the brink of a massive transport revolution. The Kalupur Railway Station is currently undergoing an extensive redevelopment to emerge as a futuristic multi-modal transit 'Super Hub' by 2028.
A Vertical Marvel Inspired by Heritage
The station's architectural design is set to be a landmark for the city. Spanning 16 storeys, the complex draws its aesthetic inspiration from the historic Modhera Sun Temple. This massive structure utilizes vertical integration to manage different modes of transport within a single, cohesive facility.
Layered Transit Connectivity
The 'Super Hub' is designed to offer seamless transitions between various transport systems through a unique three-tier layout:
- Top Level: A dedicated terminal for high-speed bullet train operations.
- Middle Level: Standard operations for regular Indian Railways trains.
- Underground Level: Integrated metro rail connectivity for urban commuters.
World-Class Amenities and Heritage Preservation
The redevelopment aims to provide a premium experience for travelers while maintaining the city's historical essence. The station complex will feature an expansive roof plaza, elevated road networks, and multi-level parking to ease congestion.
Passenger comfort is a primary focus, with the inclusion of modern food courts and dedicated passenger lounges. Most importantly, the project ensures that history is not left behind. The redevelopment includes the careful preservation and integration of the historic Shaking Minarets and the Brick Minarets into the modern station design.
Construction Progress and Urban Integration
The project is being spearheaded by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA) under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. The construction contract has been awarded to a joint venture between Dineshchandra R Agrawal Infracon and the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DRA-DMRC).
As of late 2026, the project has reached significant construction milestones:
- The main station building has successfully reached the 13th floor.
- Infrastructure work for the bullet train is in advanced stages.
- Development on platforms 9 through 12 is currently underway.
To ensure the station integrates smoothly with the surrounding city, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) is executing a 3.3 square kilometer Local Area Plan. This includes the replacement of aging Railway Over Bridges (ROBs) with modern four-lane bridges. This massive undertaking is a collaborative effort between Indian Railways, the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), and the AMC, with a target completion date set for 2028.
