Ajmer-Amritsar Train Service Suspended Due to Winter Fog

Indian Railways has announced a temporary suspension of the Ajmer-Amritsar train service to tackle the safety challenges brought by heavy winter fog. The North Western Railway has decided to halt these services from December 1, 2026, until February 28, 2027, to ensure safer rail operations during the period of extreme low visibility.
Safety Risks and Fog Mitigation
The decision comes as part of the railway's annual winter preparedness strategy. Operating long-distance trains during periods of dense fog poses significant risks, including increased accident potential and massive cascading delays across the network. Amit Sudarshan, Chief Public Relations Officer of the North Western Railway, stated that the cancellations are necessary to protect rail operations in regions prone to extreme fog.
Naveen Kumar, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, further emphasized that the measure is vital to prevent the disruption and safety hazards that occur when trains struggle to navigate low-visibility conditions.
Details of Canceled Trips
The suspension will directly impact the following bi-weekly services:
- Train Number 19611: Ajmer to Amritsar
- Train Number 19614: Amritsar to Ajmer
A total of 26 trips in each direction will be canceled throughout the suspension period. Passengers traveling through Rewari are expected to experience notable disruptions due to these service changes.
Booking Status and Implementation
To manage the transition, the Ambala Railway Division has already taken steps to halt advance bookings for the affected trains. Station masters have been issued formal notices to ensure that all passengers are adequately informed of the schedule changes. These adjustments have been integrated into the reservation systems to streamline winter traffic management.
