Aligarh Station: Platform 1 Expansion Work Begins!

Construction work has officially kicked off at the Aligarh Railway Station as North Central Railway begins the vital expansion of Platform Number One. This project is a major step in upgrading the station's infrastructure to better accommodate the growing number of travelers passing through the hub.

Boosting Capacity and Passenger Comfort

According to Amit Kumar Singh, Public Relations Officer for the North Central Railway, the expansion is a key part of ongoing development efforts. The primary goal is to manage increasing passenger footfall and ensure more efficient train operations. By widening the platform, the railway aims to provide much-needed space for smoother boarding and alighting processes.

The expansion is expected to bring specific operational benefits to several services, including:

  • Bareilly Passenger trains
  • MEMU services

This additional space will help reduce platform congestion, making the journey safer and more comfortable for daily commuters.

Part of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme

This initiative is a core component of the massive transformation of Aligarh Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. This scheme aims to provide passengers with world-class, airport-like infrastructure. The total cost for the station's complete redevelopment is estimated to range between ₹400 crore and ₹800 crore.

Currently, Aligarh Station operates with seven platforms, three footbridges, and existing lift and escalator facilities. This new expansion follows previous upgrades, such as the 7.3-meter widening of the Delhi end of Platform Number One conducted in 2016. As the station evolves with modern amenities, authorities are also considering the future of the station's historic British-era building during this redevelopment phase.
