The Kali Mori underpass project in Alwar is a significant development aimed at easing traffic congestion. Initially started in June 2022 with a completion target of December 2022, the work faced multiple halts due to technical and administrative reasons. Recently, the Rail Minister announced a budget allocation of 120 crore rupees for various railway projects in the region, which includes this underpass. PWD officials had previously stated that progress was dependent on getting a formal block from the railway authorities to execute the main structure work.

Key milestones and project details

The project has seen various updates regarding its design and financial approvals over the past years to ensure the structure meets safety standards. The following timeline highlights the key progress points for the underpass:

  • June 2022: Project work officially commenced but was stopped shortly after.
  • September 2025: Railway Minister announced 120 crore rupees for regional rail infrastructure.
  • November 2025: Railway department approved the new engineering drawings for the underpass.
  • January 2026: An initial amount of 3 crore rupees was sanctioned for the new work phase.
  • May 10: A dedicated railway block has been scheduled to start the physical construction work.

The extra budget of 1.48 lakh rupees was also added by the government to support the project completion. This underpass is expected to solve the long-standing traffic issues at the Kali Mori gate once the Railway and PWD complete their respective portions of the work.
