Commuters in Amethi are finally seeing light at the end of the tunnel as construction has officially commenced to widen the railway crossing near the Indorama Fertilizer Factory. Located on the busy Lucknow-Varanasi Highway (NH-731) in Kamrauli, this project is set to transform one of the region's most significant traffic bottlenecks.
Eliminating the Traffic Bottleneck
The primary objective of this project is to upgrade the existing crossing to a four-lane standard. For a long time, the area has been a source of intense congestion, affecting a wide variety of travelers, including:
- Two-wheeler riders navigating local routes.
- Passenger cars traveling between major cities.
- Heavy commercial vehicles transporting goods through the industrial corridor.
By expanding the crossing, the infrastructure will finally align with the four-lane configuration of the NH-731, ensuring a seamless transition for vehicles moving along the highway.
The Roadmap to Construction
The commencement of physical work in September 2026 is the culmination of a detailed procedural journey that began with local advocacy. The timeline of the project's progression is as follows:
- January 2025: Amethi MP Kishori Lal Sharma initiated the proposal for the expansion.
- January 3, 2025: Formal requests were directed to Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari.
- January 13, 2025: The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways confirmed that the request had been forwarded for necessary action.
- January 17, 2025: The Railway Minister's office confirmed that the matter was undergoing a detailed investigation by the relevant directorate.
- December 31, 2025: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) successfully deposited the estimated project costs with the Railway Department.
- September 2026: Physical site work officially began.
