Amroha District Administration Begins Land Acquisition for Ghaziabad Moradabad Rail Line Expansion
The Amroha district administration has officially accelerated land acquisition proceedings for the construction of vital third and fourth railway lines between Ghaziabad and Moradabad. This major infrastructure project aims to significantly alleviate severe traffic congestion on the busy Delhi-UP rail corridor. The initiative will involve acquiring land across 46 villages spanning the Amroha, Dhanaura, and Hasanpur tehsils, ensuring better punctuality and smoother train operations for daily commuters and long-distance travellers alike.
According to Special Land Acquisition Officer Karmendra Singh, strict instructions have been issued to Sub-Divisional Magistrates to compile detailed data, including specific plot numbers known as gata sankhya, to clearly clarify the impact on landowners. To facilitate this entire process smoothly, the administration has imposed an immediate freeze on the sale and purchase of all identified land parcels. Furthermore, authorities have enforced a strict ban on Section 80 applications, which typically allow for the conversion of agricultural land into non-agricultural use.
Land Acquisition Breakdown Across Tehsils
The total land required for this crucial expansion project spans 71.3922 hectares across the region. This area is divided among 48.1182 hectares across 27 villages in Amroha tehsil, 12.487 hectares across 14 villages in Dhanaura tehsil, and 10.787 hectares across 5 villages in Hasanpur tehsil. Local authorities are working diligently to ensure transparency and compliance throughout the data compilation and acquisition stages.
Project Background and Approvals
This localized development follows a series of important administrative milestones that have moved the project forward rapidly. On July 31, 2026, the railway authorities formally provided the complete list of the 46 villages to the district administration, a process closely overseen by the then-ADM Finance and Revenue, Garima Singh.
The project gained significant operational momentum on April 13, 2026, when the Railway Board sanctioned the final location survey and released an allocated budget of ₹2.82 crore. Subsequently, on April 19, 2026, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, officially approved the expansion of the broader Ghaziabad-Sitapur rail line.
This massive infrastructural undertaking involves constructing third and fourth railway lines over a staggering 402.78-kilometer stretch. The initiative comprehensively covers the Ghaziabad-Moradabad, Moradabad-Roza, and Roza-Sitapur sections at a cumulative estimated cost of ₹14,926 crore. Once completed, this ambitious project will transform rail travel capacity, reduce bottlenecks, and usher in a new era of efficiency for the Indian Railways network in Uttar Pradesh.
