Anand Vihar-Bhagalpur Special Trains: Beat the Festive Rush This Durga Puja & Diwali!
Indian Railways is gearing up for the heavy festive season by introducing special train services to manage the massive surge in passenger traffic. To assist travelers heading home for Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath, new special trains will operate between Anand Vihar Terminal and Bhagalpur Junction.
Detailed Schedule for Special Trains 04062 & 04061
To ensure smooth connectivity, the railways have scheduled these services to run daily during the peak festive months. Booking for these services has been open since September 19, 2026.
- Train 04062 (Anand Vihar to Bhagalpur): This service will depart from Anand Vihar Terminal daily at 12:00 PM, starting from October 10, 2026. It is scheduled to arrive at Bhagalpur Junction at 1:30 PM the following day. This service will run until November 25, 2026.
- Train 04061 (Bhagalpur to Anand Vihar): The return journey will depart from Bhagalpur daily at 4:30 PM, starting from October 11, 2026. It will reach Anand Vihar Terminal at 8:00 PM the next night. This service will continue until November 26, 2026.
Route and Major Station Halts
The special service will provide connectivity through several important junctions, making it easier for passengers to travel across various regions. Key halts include:
- Govindpuri (Kanpur)
- Subedarganj (Prayagraj)
- Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction
- Sasaram
- Gaya
- Kiul
- Abhaipur
- Jamalpur
- Sultanganj
- Ajgaivinath Dham
Coach Composition and Facilities
The train will consist of 20 coaches to accommodate different classes of travelers, ensuring options for both budget and comfort-seeking passengers:
- 1 AC-2 Tier coach
- 2 AC-3 Tier coaches
- 9 Sleeper class coaches
- 6 General class coaches
- 2 SLRD coaches
"This initiative aims to provide convenient travel options amidst long waiting lists on regular trains," stated Chief Public Relations Officer Dr. Shivam Sharma.
A Massive Festive Connectivity Drive
The Anand Vihar-Bhagalpur service is just one part of a much larger plan by Indian Railways. To tackle the festive demand, a total of 1,053 special train trips are being organized between October 1 and November 30, 2026. These trips are designed to connect major hubs in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra with key cities in Bihar, such as Patna, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, and Gaya.
Additionally, travelers should note that a separate Malda Town-Anand Vihar Terminal special train will also be operational starting October 12, 2026, traveling via Bhagalpur, Jamalpur, and Sahibganj.
