Anand Vihar Railway Station: New underpass and FOB planned to reduce traffic jams
The government is planning a major upgrade at Anand Vihar Railway Station to solve the chronic traffic congestion in the area. Under a Multi-Modal Integration (MMI) plan, new connectivity options will be created to link the station with Kaushambi and Karkardooma. What are the new connectivity plans for passengers?
The Delhi LG has directed officials to build a new Foot Over Bridge (FOB) to connect the Kaushambi bus stand directly to Anand Vihar Railway Station. This bridge will feature travelators, similar to those found in airports, to help passengers move comfortably. Additionally, an underpass is being considered to connect the Karkardooma area directly with the transport hub, which includes the railway station, metro, and bus stand.
What other infrastructure upgrades are happening at the station?
Northern Railway is starting a development project worth approximately 4.19 crore rupees to improve passenger facilities. The work includes repairing dilapidated sections of platforms 1 to 7 and reorganizing entry and exit points to manage crowds better. To further increase capacity, two new platforms (8 and 9) are being developed and are expected to be operational by the end of the year.
