Anand Vihar & Udhna Station Get Major Passenger Facility Boost

Indian Railways is intensifying its efforts to modernize infrastructure and significantly enhance the travel experience for millions of passengers. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has recently conducted high-level reviews of critical junction developments and passenger holding area projects to ensure they meet modern standards of comfort and efficiency.
New Facilities for Anand Vihar and Udhna
A major focus of these reviews is the development of specialized passenger facilities designed to manage crowding and improve the waiting experience. Two key projects are currently being fast-tracked:
- Anand Vihar Terminal: A new Yatri Suvidha Kendra is under development, designed to serve approximately 7,000 passengers.
- Udhna Railway Station: A massive new facility is slated to accommodate up to 15,000 passengers, providing much-needed relief during peak travel periods.
Minister Vaishnaw has issued strict directives to officials to accelerate site works and resolve any pending utility shifting challenges to ensure these facilities are completed on schedule.
Massive Multi-Tracking Projects Approved
Beyond station amenities, the government is investing heavily in capacity expansion to bolster freight and passenger movement. The Union Cabinet has approved eight multi-tracking railway projects valued at over Rs 20,800 crore. These projects are set to transform connectivity across several states, including:
- Chhattisgarh
- Jharkhand
- Madhya Pradesh
- Odisha
- West Bengal
Tamil Nadu Infrastructure and High-Speed Vision
The modernization drive is also making significant strides in the south. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently inaugurated five redeveloped Amrit Bharat stations and dedicated the new Karaikal-Peralam railway line, alongside three rail flyovers in Tamil Nadu. This regional investment totals approximately Rs 750 crore.
Looking toward the future, the Union Budget 2026-27 has proposed seven new corridors aimed at establishing high-speed connectivity between India's primary economic hubs, further expanding the reach of the national rail network.
