Ashoka Buildcon shares surge after securing a major RVNL rail tunnel contract in Uttarakhand

Ashoka Buildcon shares experienced a significant market rally on Monday, August 31, 2026, with shares climbing between 10% and 15% in intraday trading following a major infrastructure win. This impressive surge is driven by the company securing a massive ₹602.16 crore contract from Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), marking a major milestone for railway infrastructure development in the country. Key highlights of this project include comprehensive electro-mechanical works for four crucial railway tunnels, a strict completion timeline of 30 months, and the project being part of the larger strategic Rishikesh-Karnprayag rail line initiative.

Project Scope and Contract Details

The formal contract was confirmed via a Letter of Acceptance dated August 28, 2026, and specifically covers tunnels identified as T-13, T-14, T-15, and T-16 under Package E-4 of the Rishikesh-Karnprayag New Broad Gauge Rail Line Project in Uttarakhand. The comprehensive scope of work encompasses the supply, erection, testing, and commissioning of essential infrastructure. This includes 33/11 kV and 11/0.433 kV GIS substations, diesel generator (DG) sets, HT and LT cabling, advanced fire-fighting systems, ventilation networks, modern lighting, and UPS installations. Ashoka Buildcon is mandated to complete the entire project within 30 months from the commencement date and has been assigned a two-year defect liability period. To formally secure the contract, the firm must provide a performance bank guarantee to RVNL amounting to ₹25.51 crore. Furthermore, the company clarified that the agreement is strictly not a related-party transaction, confirming that no promoters or members of the promoter group hold any interest in RVNL.

Progress on the Rishikesh Karnprayag Rail Line

Providing an update on the broader regional connectivity initiative, RVNL Chairman and Managing Director Saleem Ahmad reported that the 125-km rail line is currently 78% complete, with an impressive 97% of all tunnel excavations already finished. The entire landmark project, valued at ₹37,000 crore, remains on track and is scheduled for full completion by December 2029, promising transformative rail connectivity for pilgrims and residents across Uttarakhand.
