Ashwini Vaishnaw Unveils ₹1 Lakh Cr Madhya Pradesh Railway Projects

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced a massive expansion of the state's infrastructure through new Madhya Pradesh railway projects, with investments valued at approximately ₹1 lakh crore currently underway. In a landmark development for regional connectivity, Minister Vaishnaw, alongside Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, inaugurated two major railway sections on October 24, 2026, covering a total distance of 118 kilometers.

Historic Rail Connection for Sidhi District

The inauguration marks a monumental milestone for the region, as the Lalitpur-Singrauli New Rail Line project will connect the Sidhi district to the national railway network for the first time since Independence. The newly inaugurated stretches include:

  • Satna–Devendranagar stretch: Spanning 53 km.
  • Rewa–Churhat stretch: Spanning 65 km.

To celebrate this historic achievement, a new train service connecting Devendranagar and Churhat was officially flagged off during the ceremony.

Engineering Marvels and Industrial Growth

The Rewa–Churhat section stands out as a significant engineering feat, featuring a 3.33-km-long tunnel specifically designed to traverse the region's challenging hilly terrain. Beyond enhancing passenger travel, these new lines are poised to become vital industrial lifelines. The Satna–Devendranagar section, in particular, is expected to provide a massive boost to the local economy by supporting the limestone and cement manufacturing sectors.

Future Timelines and Massive Budget Allocations

The government’s commitment to transforming the state's rail landscape is backed by substantial financial planning. For the 2026-27 fiscal year, ₹15,188 crore has been allocated specifically for railway development in Madhya Pradesh. This brings the total value of all ongoing railway projects in the state to an impressive ₹1,18,379 crore.

Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla shared further details regarding the expansion timeline:

  • Sidhi Connectivity: Railway services are projected to reach the district by December 2026.
  • Singrauli Connectivity: Services are expected to be operational by December 2028.
