Ashwini Vaishnaw to Open New MP Rail Lines & Sidhi MEMU
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to inaugurate new Satna-Devendranagar and Rewa-Churhat rail sections in Madhya Pradesh on October 24.

In a massive boost to the connectivity of the Vindhya region, Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav are set to inaugurate two major rail projects on October 24, 2026. This infrastructure expansion marks a transformative moment for the state, bringing modern rail access to previously isolated areas.
Expanding the Network: Satna and Rewa Sections
The inauguration will mark the opening of 118 kilometers of brand-new rail infrastructure. These projects are critical components of the broader Lalitpur-Singrauli rail line initiative and include advanced engineering features like a 3.33-kilometer tunnel. The two newly opened sections are:
- Satna-Devendranagar rail section: Covering a distance of 53 kilometers.
- Rewa-Churhat rail section: Spanning 65 kilometers.
A Historic Milestone for Sidhi District
The expansion is not just about tracks and tunnels; it is about historical progress. Along with the new lines, the ministers will flag off a new MEMU train service connecting Devendranagar and Churhat. This service represents a monumental achievement, as it marks the first time the Sidhi district has been connected to the Indian Railways network since independence.
New MEMU Train Schedule and Details
While the inauguration takes place on October 24, regular passenger operations are scheduled to commence on October 25, 2026. The MEMU service will operate six days a week, excluding Sundays. The specific schedule for the new services is as follows:
- Train No. 61629: Departs Devendranagar at 7:00 AM and arrives in Churhat at 1:15 PM.
- Train No. 61630: Departs Churhat at 3:00 PM and arrives in Devendranagar at 9:25 PM.
Unlocking Economic and Industrial Growth
The arrival of these rail lines is expected to act as a powerful catalyst for development. By improving access, the project is set to boost industrial, tourism, and commercial activities across the districts of Panna, Satna, Rewa, Sidhi, and Singrauli.
For the 2026-27 fiscal year, Madhya Pradesh has been allocated a record budget of ₹15,188 crore for rail development, with ongoing projects across the state valued at approximately ₹1,18,379 crore.
Ceremony and Local Preparations
The inauguration ceremonies will be held at the Nagod and Churhat railway stations, with the ceremonial trains scheduled to depart between 2:00 PM and 3:00 PM. The events will be attended by several high-ranking officials, including Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla, various Members of Parliament, and State Ministers. To ensure a smooth event, local authorities, including the Collector and Superintendent of Police, have already completed venue inspections and necessary arrangements.
