Ayodhya-Prayagraj Passenger Delayed: Gravel Found on Tracks

The Ayodhya Cantt-Prayagraj Sangam Passenger experienced a delay on Friday night after gravel was discovered obstructing the railway tracks near Mauaima station.
Swift Action by Loco Pilot Prevents Major Hazard
The obstruction was spotted by the loco pilot, who immediately alerted railway authorities to the potential safety hazard on the line. Following the alert, railway employees were quickly dispatched to the site, where they successfully cleared the gravel from the tracks.
The intervention allowed the train to resume its journey, though it faced a delay of approximately nine minutes due to the incident.
RPF Launches Investigation Under Railways Act
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has since registered a case against an unknown person under the Railways Act, 1989, and has launched a formal investigation into the matter. While authorities are currently exploring the possibility that the obstruction was an act of mischief by children, this has not yet been confirmed.
Placing obstructions on railway tracks is treated as a serious offense under Indian law. Under Section 174 of the Railways Act, 1989, which specifically covers the obstruction of trains, offenders can face severe penalties, including:
- Imprisonment for a term of up to two years, or
- A fine of up to ₹2,000.
Ongoing Safety Concerns in Prayagraj Division
This incident is part of a broader concern for the Prayagraj Division, which has been actively investigating several similar cases of track tampering. Authorities have previously dealt with instances involving iron pipes and other debris being placed on the tracks. The division remains committed to its mandate of ensuring passenger safety and securing critical railway infrastructure against such disruptions.
