Bahraich-Khalilabad Rail: Land Acquisition Milestone

The long-awaited Bahraich-Khalilabad railway line is rapidly moving toward reality. In a major development for connectivity in Uttar Pradesh, land acquisition for the initial phase of this ambitious project has been successfully completed in the Siddharthnagar district.

Progress on the 54-Kilometer Segment

Significant momentum has been gained for the 54-kilometer rail segment stretching from Karma to Gauri in the Bansi tehsil. A total of 82.81 hectares of land have been acquired to facilitate this section. Construction activities are already hitting the ground, with earthwork having commenced on the newly acquired land.

To support this new route, key infrastructure is being planned, including the establishment of new railway stations at:

  • Batsa in Khesraha
  • Gauri in Bansi

Designated as a 'Special Railway Project'

The importance of this connectivity project was officially recognized by the Railway Board. On September 23, 2026, Railway Board Deputy Director (Works) JS Sehrawat issued a notification designating the new rail line as a 'Special Railway Project.' This status is expected to provide the necessary impetus for its completion.

Administrative Push for Fast-Track Completion

During a high-level review meeting held on October 7, 2026, District Magistrate Shivsharanappa GN assessed the progress of the proposed 240-kilometer route connecting Khalilabad to Bahraich. The District Magistrate issued strict directives to:

  1. Expedite the remaining land acquisition processes.
  2. Ensure swift and fair compensation payments to all affected landowners and farmers.

The meeting included key officials such as the Additional District Magistrate (Judicial), the competent authority for land acquisition, and the Naib Tehsildar of Bansi, all working to ensure the project meets its timelines.

Expanding Scope: Bansi to Ikauna and Balrampur

The development is not limited to a single segment. Land acquisition processes were also initiated on October 5, 2026, for a 120-kilometer section running from Bansi to Ikauna.

Furthermore, the administration in Balrampur has intensified its efforts to clear the way for the tracks. Acquisition camps have been organized across ten different villages in the Sadar tehsil to streamline the process and address local concerns directly.
