BLW Delivers 50th Amrit Bharat Push-Pull Locomotive

Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW), popularly known as Bareka, has reached a massive industrial milestone by completing its 50th Amrit Bharat push-pull locomotive. This achievement marks a significant step in the expansion of the Amrit Bharat Express fleet, aimed at transforming intercity travel across the country.

New Locomotives Dispatched to Jodhpur

As of October 15, 2026, the latest units—specifically identified as locomotive numbers 45336 and 45337—have been dispatched. These advanced engines are headed to the North Western Railway's Diesel Loco Shed situated at Bhagat Ki Kothi in Jodhpur.

"Each locomotive produced serves as a testament to India's industrial self-reliance, technical innovation, and excellence. The production of these units reinforces the core objectives of the 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiatives," stated Ashutosh Pant, General Manager of BLW.

High-Speed Technology and Passenger Comfort

The push-pull technology used in these locomotives is designed to revolutionize the passenger experience. By utilizing engines at both ends of the train, the configuration provides several technical and operational advantages:

  • Enhanced Speed: The locomotives are engineered to support speeds of up to 130 km/h.
  • Smoother Rides: The design ensures a jerk-free travel experience for passengers.
  • Operational Efficiency: The setup allows for much faster turnaround times at stations.
  • Advanced Safety: The units feature modernized cabs, superior braking systems, and crashworthy designs to mitigate impact.

A Growing Legacy of Manufacturing

The successful delivery of these 50 units is part of a much larger production history at Bareka. To date, the facility has manufactured a total of 11,531 railway engines, including 3,195 electric locomotives.

This latest development comes as Indian Railways continues to scale the Amrit Bharat service to provide affordable and comfortable travel. This follows the rollout of the Amrit Bharat 3.0 trainset in August 2026, which introduced updated interior themes and a variety of coach options, including both air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned versions.
