Indian Railways starts building boundary walls on Bandikui Alwar route for safety

Boosting Safety and Speed with Boundary Walls
The installation of boundary walls along the Bandikui-Alwar section serves as a critical preparatory step for the upcoming integration of the Kavach automatic train protection system. The project aims at preventing unauthorized track access and improving operational efficiency. This mirrors successful safety measures already implemented on the Bandikui-Bharatpur railway line. Nationwide, Indian Railways has aggressively expanded its safety infrastructure, with approximately 19,700 kilometers of protective fencing installed across the country as of August 12, 2026. These efforts specifically target vulnerable locations and routes where train speeds exceed 110 kmph, often incorporating pedestrian subways to facilitate the safe crossing of cattle and vehicles.
Progress of the Kavach System
The Kavach system, adopted as the National ATP System in July 2020, continues to see rapid deployment. Over 2,000 kilometers of track have been equipped with Kavach as of June 17, 2026. Furthermore, a ₹206-crore project for Kavach Version 4.0 was approved on July 10, 2026, covering 680 route kilometers across Northern Railway sections to provide robust safety guarantees for passengers.
Major Station Redevelopment and Line Doubling
Infrastructure improvements in the region extend well beyond the Bandikui-Alwar fencing. The Alwar railway station is currently undergoing a ₹112-crore redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme. This major upgrade includes the addition of a high-level platform, two six-meter-wide foot overbridges, and nine lifts to transform the station into a modern transport hub.
Additionally, capacity expansion is moving at a fast pace. The railway line doubling between Bandikui and Ghosrana was completed on August 2, 2026, as part of a larger 150-kilometer project connecting Agra Fort to Bandikui. This larger corridor is slated for completion by March or April 2027, and it is expected to significantly reduce transit delays for daily commuters and long-distance passengers alike.
