Bangai railway station commuters protest timing changes and stop removal

Villagers and daily commuters in Bangai have expressed strong dissatisfaction regarding recent adjustments to train schedules and the removal of the Gorakhpur-Varanasi Intercity train's halt at Bangai Railway Station. The changes have caused significant disruption for students, traders, daily wage earners, patients, and employees who rely on rail travel to reach Gonda. Students are facing major hurdles because the revised timing of the DEMU train causes them to arrive in Gonda as late as 11:30 AM or 12:00 PM, missing their early classes which previously started smoothly when they reached by 9:30 AM. In addition to demanding the restoration of the former schedule and the reinstatement of the Intercity stoppage, commuters are calling for the introduction of a new Intercity train service departing around 9:00 AM to better serve the local population.

Memorandum Submitted to Railway Authorities

On September 3, 2026, a group of residents led by social worker Ankit Shukla submitted a collective memorandum detailing these grievances to the Bangai Railway Station Superintendent, Rahul Pathak. Superintendent Pathak has assured the public that their demands will be escalated to the Divisional Railway Manager and competent authorities for prompt consideration.

Warning of Larger Agitation

Protesters have warned that if their demands are not addressed promptly, they are prepared to launch a larger agitation. There are also plans to seek intervention from local political representatives, including MLAs and MPs, should the current efforts fail to yield a satisfactory resolution for daily travellers.
