Bangalore Metro receives four new trains to ease overcrowding
The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited has taken delivery of four new train sets equipped with the Distance To Go system to enhance overall fleet operations. Regular commuters navigating the city transit network will soon experience improved travel conditions as these modern assets help address persistent overcrowding issues by enabling more frequent trips across busy corridors. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited confirms that this delivery marks a crucial step in expanding the rolling stock inventory for the city, bringing much-needed relief to daily passengers who rely on rapid transit services.
The joint venture between China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation and Titagarh Rail Systems Limited is contracted to deliver 17 more train sets by March 2027. Upon final delivery, all 21 of these new units will serve the Green Line exclusively, significantly boosting passenger capacity on that major route.
Rebalancing Network Capacity and Fleet Distribution
Expanding the Green Line fleet acts as the primary strategy to manage surging passenger loads effectively. Once the newly arrived trains enter active commercial service, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited plans to shift 17 older train sets from the Green Line to the Purple Line. This calculated redistribution aims to optimize operations across both major corridors of the urban transit network.
Following the completion of this rollout, the Green Line will host a total of 28 operational trains, increasing from its current count of 24 trains. Meanwhile, the Purple Line will experience a substantial capacity enhancement, seeing its total fleet size rise from 33 trains to 50 trains.
Addressing Passenger Congestion on Busy Corridors
Daily commuters have faced significant crowding on the busiest sections of the network for quite some time. Transit officials anticipate that this comprehensive redistribution of rolling stock will lead to a substantial reduction in passenger congestion once full deployment is achieved.
The integration of these additional trains serves as the key factor behind the planned improvement in overall service levels and headway management.
