Barabanki-Gonda Road: Massive 850m ROB Proposed to Kill Traffic Jams
Commuters traveling between Barabanki and Gonda are looking forward to a major relief from daily traffic struggles. A proposal for a massive 850-meter-long Railway Overbridge (ROB) near the Kasiripur railway crossing has been moved forward to tackle the chronic congestion caused by frequent railway gate closures.
A Collaborative Blueprint for Progress
To ensure the project's success, the Public Works Department (PWD), the Setu Nigam, and the Railway Department have worked together to finalize the design map. As of September 22, 2026, this formal proposal has been submitted to the state government for official approval.
Ashish Srivastava, the Executive Engineer of Setu Nigam Lucknow, highlighted that the primary objective is to eliminate the long, frustrating queues of vehicles that form every time the railway crossing gates are shut. This new structure is designed to provide a seamless transit route for all commuters.
Technical Details of the Proposed Bridge
The proposed infrastructure is being planned with significant scale to handle the heavy flow of regional traffic. Key features include:
- Three-Track Span: The bridge is designed to span across three parallel railway tracks, ensuring it can accommodate the railway infrastructure without interruption.
- Integrated Approach Roads: To ensure smooth movement, the project includes the construction of dedicated approach roads on both sides of the railway tracks.
- Signal-Free Transit: The ROB will allow vehicles to bypass the railway crossing entirely, providing a signal-free journey for thousands of travelers.
Boosting Regional Connectivity
The initiative follows a specific directive from the Chief Minister, issued on July 21, 2026, during the Lodheshwar Mahadeva program. The Chief Minister had ordered officials to prepare a proposal for both the ROB and the four-laning of the Mahadeva road to improve overall connectivity in the area.
Once administrative approval is granted by the state government, officials will move toward finalizing technical estimates and detailed engineering designs. This development is expected to link the Barabanki-Gonda road directly with the upcoming four-lane Lodheshwar Mahadeva corridor, significantly enhancing the region's transport network.
