Barabanki-Gonda Traffic Relief: Massive 850m Railway Overbridge Planned
Commuters traveling along the Barabanki-Gonda route are set to receive a major boost in connectivity. Authorities have finalized plans for a massive 850-meter-long railway overbridge designed to eliminate the heavy traffic congestion that has long plagued the Kesaripur railway crossing.
Ending the Kesaripur Bottleneck
The Kesaripur crossing has become a significant bottleneck for motorists due to the presence of three parallel railway lines. This complex layout frequently leads to massive traffic jams and delays. To address this issue, a collaborative design has been completed through the combined efforts of the Public Works Department (PWD), the Bridge Corporation (Setu Nigam), and Indian Railways.
Rapid Progress at Dariyabad Crossing
This new project is part of an extensive infrastructure upgrade across the Barabanki district. On September 21, 2026, State Minister Satish Sharma conducted an inspection of the ongoing overbridge construction at the Dariyabad railway crossing, which serves the Ayodhya-Lucknow rail route.
Following high-level discussions with officials from the Railways, PWD, and the Bridge Corporation, several key milestones were highlighted:
- Completion Timeline: The Dariyabad overbridge project is on track to be completed by the first week of December.
- Service Lane Priority: Minister Sharma has directed that the service lanes on both sides of the Dariyabad bridge must be finished before the start of the Navratri festival.
Upcoming Development at Banki Crossing
The regional infrastructure push also includes the upcoming construction of an overbridge at the Banki railway crossing. This project gained significant momentum after receiving necessary No Objection Certificates (NOCs) from both the military and the Uttar Pradesh government on May 29, 2026.
Details regarding the Banki project include:
- Project Scale: The structure will be a two-lane overbridge.
- Financial Investment: The project is estimated to cost approximately 87 crore rupees.
- Current Status: As announced by MP Tanuj Punia on August 25, 2026, construction is slated to begin immediately following the completion of the tender process.
