Barabanki Protests: Residents Demand Overbridge at Gate 3
Residents of Ramnagar, Barabanki, protest the proposed railway underpass at Gate 3, demanding an overbridge to prevent monsoon waterlogging.

The residents of Ramnagar in Barabanki have launched a significant protest against the proposed changes to the railway infrastructure in their region. The local community is strongly opposing the plan to close the existing railway crossing at Gate Number 3 on the Burhwal-Sitapur rail section and replace it with a railway underpass.
Fear of Waterlogging and Monsoon Woes
During a massive demonstration on Thursday, dozens of villagers gathered at the crossing located on the Ashokpur-Amoli road. The primary concern driving this protest is the threat of severe waterlogging. Residents pointed out that many villages in the area already suffer from inadequate drainage systems.
"An underpass will become a disaster during the monsoon," the protesters argued, expressing fears that heavy rains would flood the passage, making it impassable for farmers, students, and daily commuters.
A Lifeline for Multiple Villages
The crossing in question is not just a local path but a vital transit artery for several communities. The proposed closure threatens the connectivity of numerous villages, including:
- Ashokpur
- Khetaura
- Churailiya
- Amoli Kala
- Thakurihawa
- Gulriha
- Thal Kala
According to the locals, this route serves as the primary connection to the main road leading to the district headquarters, making any disruption a major blow to local mobility.
Demand for an Overbridge
Instead of the planned underpass, the protesters have submitted a formal memorandum to Railway Engineer Rajiv Ranjan, demanding the construction of an overbridge. They believe an overbridge is a far more sustainable and long-term solution that would avoid the recurring issues of water accumulation and traffic disruptions.
The villagers have issued a stern warning: if their demands are not addressed with urgency, they will be forced to intensify their protests in the coming days.
Police Presence Maintained Law and Order
To prevent any escalation of the situation during the demonstration, Station House Officer Arun Pratap Singh was present at the site with a contingent of police personnel to ensure that law and order were maintained throughout the protest.
