Bastar Railway Project: Work to accelerate on Rowghat-Jagdalpur line with full budget allocation
The rail connectivity in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh is set for a major boost. Senior DCM Awadhesh Kumar Trivedi stated that work will start at several locations to speed up the pending projects. The central government has allocated the full estimated cost of ₹3513.11 crore for the Rowghat-Jagdalpur new rail line in the 2026-27 budget. The project covers 140 km and received approval from the Railway Ministry around May 2025. Tender processes have already started for a 12-13 km section of this line.
What is the status of other rail projects in the region?
The Dallirajhara-Rowghat project is nearly finished with 97% work completed. Only the 17.5 km Taroki-Rowghat section remains. Freight connectivity to Rowghat is expected within a month, and passenger trains may start in the next two to three months. Additionally, the Bargarh-Nuapada line (138.32 km) has been approved at a cost of ₹2621.92 crore to improve connectivity between Odisha and Chhattisgarh.
