Basti railway overbridge construction picks up pace after foundation work finishes

The construction of the much awaited railway overbridge connecting New Basti and Old Basti is progressing rapidly to ease daily commute hassles for local residents. As of September 8, 2026, Setu Nigam has completed roughly 70 percent of its assigned infrastructure work. Meanwhile, the portion managed by Indian Railways has also seen major progress with the successful completion of foundation work and the ongoing erection of bridge pillars at railway station gate number 198-B.

Traffic Restrictions and Closure Details

To ensure the safety of workers and commuters during heavy engineering tasks, level crossing 198-B has been closed to traffic since June. This temporary closure is essential for carrying out crucial construction activities such as piling, girder installation, and assembling the protective roof structure directly above the railway tracks. Railway and bridge corporation officials estimate that the level crossing will remain shut for a total duration of five months to complete these vital upgrades without interruption.
