On Thursday, September 24, 2026, Gaurav Agarwal, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the North Eastern Railway's Lucknow Division, conducted a comprehensive site inspection to monitor the progress of the ongoing redevelopment under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
Thorough Inspection of Infrastructure and Amenities
Arriving at the station via a special train at 1:25 PM, the DRM performed a detailed walkthrough to evaluate the quality of work currently underway. The inspection covered several critical areas essential for modern rail operations, including:
- Platform and Track Integrity: Assessing the structural progress of platforms and rail tracks.
- Electrical Infrastructure: Ensuring the power systems are being installed to meet modern standards.
- Passenger Facilities: Evaluating the current state of amenities provided to travelers.
During the visit, a specific focus was placed on passenger health and safety. The DRM personally checked the quality of drinking water available at the station, confirming that the TDS levels met the necessary standards for public consumption.

Recognizing the challenges of construction, Agarwal held consultations with Station Superintendent Naseem Ahmed to discuss strategies for maintaining passenger convenience while the station undergoes its major facelift. The inspection also extended beyond the station boundaries; the DRM and accompanying officials examined the operations at Babhnan Railway Gate number 223, a crucial crossing point for local road and rail traffic.

The redevelopment of Basti Railway Station is a high-stakes project with an estimated budget of ₹30 to ₹35 crore. The initiative aims to elevate the facility to the status of a modern, national-level hub. The comprehensive upgrade plan features a wide range of enhancements, such as:
- Modernization of the station building and improved platform infrastructure.
- Upgraded circulating areas and expanded parking facilities.
- Enhanced waiting halls and state-of-the-art restroom facilities.
- Advanced lighting systems and digital information displays for real-time updates.
- Specialized accessibility provisions to assist disabled passengers.

The DRM concluded his inspection and departed for Lucknow at 2:30 PM. The entire project is currently on track and is expected to reach completion by the end of 2026.
