Commuters traveling through Bhadaura railway station in Sevarai are facing severe distress due to deteriorating drinking water facilities and persistent sanitation problems. The station is currently plagued by severe waterlogging, which has severely exacerbated cleanliness issues and created an unhygienic environment for passengers, leading to widespread public demands for immediate intervention from the railway administration. Passengers at Bhadaura are pressing for essential upgrades, including the provision of clean drinking water, adequate seating, improved lighting, and enhanced general cleaning services to address the current poor station conditions.

These local concerns directly align with broader national findings highlighted in a recent Comptroller and Auditor General report released between August 16 and 19, 2026. The CAG report exposed significant deficiencies in passenger amenities, noting the presence of harmful bacteria such as E. coli in drinking water samples across numerous non-suburban railway stations in India. In response to these alarming findings, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw issued a directive on August 16, 2026, mandating immediate corrective measures.

Railway Administration Response and Local Inspections

The directive from the Railway Minister mandates the installation of tank-to-tap water filtration systems at 20,000 locations, the replacement of aging water tanks, and the implementation of regular water quality testing across the railway network. Following these national directives, local authorities in the Varanasi Division, led by Divisional Railway Manager Ashish Jain and Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer Anubhav Pathak, have recently initiated special campaigns.

Divisional authorities have started inspecting drinking water and sanitation standards at regional stations, including Ghazipur City and Karimuddinpur. These active efforts involve rigorous testing of water from coolers, vending machines, and taps to check chlorine levels and bacterial contaminants. While these official inspections are currently underway in the region, daily commuters continue to demand swift action at Bhadaura station to ensure safe travel experiences.
