Bhopal Diwali Special Trains and AI Tech to Manage Rush
Bhopal Railway Division introduces 20 special trains and AI surveillance to manage massive Diwali crowds and ensure passenger safety.

To manage the massive festive surge, the Bhopal Railway Division has introduced 20 Bhopal Diwali special trains alongside high-tech surveillance systems. This proactive measure is designed to handle the overwhelming number of travelers heading home for the holidays.
Managing Massive Passenger Footfall
The Bhopal railway station is currently witnessing a significant spike in commuters. While the station typically handles around 60,000 passengers daily, the festive season has pushed this number to over one lakh daily commuters. To prevent chaos and ensure smooth movement, the division has implemented several logistical changes.
Key infrastructure adjustments include:
- The establishment of dedicated entry and exit points at platforms 1 and 6 to streamline passenger flow.
- The ongoing construction of Yatri Suvidha Kendras (passenger holding areas) on both sides of the station to reduce platform congestion.
Advanced AI Surveillance and Enhanced Security
Safety and crowd management are being bolstered by a combination of human intelligence and cutting-edge technology. The division has deployed 30 additional personnel during every shift, including staff from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and commercial departments.
Complementing the ground staff is an intensified surveillance network consisting of 18 high-tech cameras. This includes:
- 13 AI-enabled cameras capable of monitoring crowd density in real time.
- 5 face-recognition cameras to identify potential security risks and enhance passenger safety.
National Festive Preparedness
The efforts in Bhopal are part of a much larger operation by Indian Railways. To cater to the heightened demand during the Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath Puja period, approximately 18,000 special trains are being operated across the entire country.
