Bhopal TTE Body Cameras for Vande Bharat & Shan-e-Bhopal

The Bhopal Division of West Central Railway is set to modernize its onboard surveillance by introducing Bhopal TTE body cameras. This initiative is designed to enhance transparency and ensure accountability during ticket inspections across various train services.

Ensuring Transparency in Ticket Inspections

The division has officially placed an order for 56 body-worn camera units. These devices are expected to be deployed within the next two to three months. According to Senior Divisional Commercial Manager Saurabh Kataria, the proposal has been under active consideration for approximately two years.

The primary objective of this technological upgrade is to provide impartial audio and video evidence. This will be crucial for:

  • Investigating passenger complaints regarding staff behavior or ticket issues.
  • Resolving potential disputes between travelers and railway employees.
  • Providing a definitive record to protect the interests of both the workforce and the passengers.

Priority Routes and Phased Rollout

The initial implementation will focus on high-profile services to test the effectiveness of the equipment. Key trains identified for the rollout include:

  • Vande Bharat Express
  • Shan-e-Bhopal Express

While the current order of 56 cameras will cover a portion of the division's 300 to 320 ticket-checking personnel, officials plan a phased expansion to eventually equip more staff. Additionally, the administration is exploring the possibility of providing similar body-worn cameras to employees working at booking and reservation counters.

Broader Railway Modernization Efforts

This move by the Bhopal Division aligns with wider modernization trends within the Indian Railways network. Similar pilot programs and deployments are already being utilized in other zones:

  • North Central Railway: Cameras have been introduced on services between Prayagraj and New Delhi.
  • Western Railway: Technology is currently in use on Mumbai local trains.
  • RPF: The Railway Protection Force is also expanding its use of body-worn recording equipment to improve security and surveillance.
