Bihar Rail Alert: 51 Trains Cancelled & 47 Diverted Near Mokama-Barauni

Passengers traveling toward Bihar are facing significant disruptions as Indian Railways implements massive changes to train schedules. Due to ongoing technical operations, authorities have confirmed the cancellation of 51 Bihar-bound trains and the diversion of 47 others.

The Reason Behind the Disruption: Bridge Integration

The current chaos is caused by intensive non-interlocking (NI) work, which is essential for connecting a new double-line rail-cum-road bridge to the main railway network. This new infrastructure is being constructed parallel to the existing 1.9-kilometer-long Rajendra Pul, a vital link that spans the Ganga River between Mokama and Barauni.

The project, which was sanctioned in the 2015-16 Rail Budget with an investment of approximately Rs 1,491.47 crore, is being managed by the East Central Railway (ECR) and the Danapur Railway Division. The integration process is a complex technical task aimed at boosting the region's rail capacity once completed.

Scale of Train Cancellations and Diversions

The non-interlocking work began on September 21 and is scheduled to continue through October 4, 2026. The impact on rail services is widespread:

  • Current Impact: As of September 26, 51 trains have been cancelled and 47 have been diverted.
  • Daily Disruptions: On September 25, officials reported 23 cancellations and 25 route diversions in a single day.
  • Total Service Adjustments: Over the entire duration of this work, approximately 384 trains are expected to undergo route changes, with more than three dozen trains facing total cancellation.

Important Advice for Passengers

Given the high number of service adjustments, Indian Railways strongly urges all passengers to verify the real-time status of their trains before departing for the station. Checking live updates is essential to avoid inconvenience caused by these ongoing infrastructure improvements.
