BLW Milestone: 50th Amrit Bharat Push-Pull Loco Out!

Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW) in Varanasi has achieved a massive production milestone. On October 15, 2026, the facility successfully rolled out its 50th Amrit Bharat push-pull locomotive for the 2026-27 financial year.
This achievement marks a significant step forward in India's journey toward industrial self-reliance, supporting the national 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' missions.
Revolutionizing Rail Efficiency with Push-Pull Technology
The Amrit Bharat locomotives utilize a specialized push-pull configuration. Unlike traditional trains where a single locomotive leads the way, this system places engines at both ends of the train. This design offers several major operational advantages:
- Increased Efficiency: It eliminates the time-consuming need to re-position locomotives when changing directions at terminals.
- Enhanced Safety: The locomotives feature crashworthy designs and improved braking systems.
- Modern Technology: Each unit is equipped with modern locomotive cabs and semi-automatic couplers.
Driving National Self-Reliance
"Every locomotive produced by the factory serves as a testament to the nation's industrial self-reliance, innovation, and technical excellence," stated BLW General Manager Ashutosh Pant.
New Units Dispatched to Jodhpur
The latest batch of newly manufactured units, specifically locomotive numbers 45336 and 45337, has already been dispatched. These engines are headed to the Bhagat Ki Kothi diesel locomotive shed under the North Western Railway in Jodhpur.
BLW’s Massive Production Legacy
The production of these advanced locomotives is part of a long-standing history of excellence at BLW. Since its inception, the facility has manufactured a staggering total of 11,531 locomotives, which includes 3,195 electric locomotives, playing a vital role in the continuous strengthening of India's rail infrastructure.
