Banaras Locomotive Works (BLW), popularly known as Bareka, has reached a significant production milestone by completing its 50th Amrit Bharat push-pull locomotive. This achievement, recorded as of October 15, 2026, stands as a major contribution to the 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' initiatives, highlighting the facility's role in the nation's industrial self-reliance.

Boosting Efficiency for North Western Railway

The latest units, identified by the numbers 45336 and 45337, have been manufactured specifically for the North Western Railway (NWR). These advanced locomotives are destined for the Bhagat Ki Kothi Diesel Loco Shed located in Jodhpur.

"Every locomotive produced at this facility serves as a symbol of the nation's industrial self-reliance, innovation, and technical excellence," stated Ashutosh Pant, General Manager of BLW. He added that the production of these push-pull units reinforces the commitment to domestic manufacturing.

The Power of Push-Pull Technology

The push-pull locomotive configuration is a modern advancement featuring engines at both ends of the train. This specialized design is engineered to optimize various aspects of railway operations, including:

  • Smoother Operations: Providing more stable and controlled transit.
  • Reduced Turnaround Times: Allowing for quicker transitions at terminal stations.
  • Increased Efficiency: Streamlining the movement of long-distance trains.

Advanced Safety and High-Speed Performance

Designed to power the Amrit Bharat Express services, these locomotives are built to provide a jerk-free travel experience at speeds of up to 130 km/h. The units are equipped with several high-tech enhancements to ensure passenger comfort and safety:

  • Advanced Loco Cabs: Modernized controls for enhanced driver operation.
  • Semi-Automatic Couplers: For more efficient and reliable connections.
  • Crashworthy Designs: Specifically engineered to mitigate impact during accidents.
  • Superior Braking Systems: Ensuring high-level safety during high-speed transit.

A Legacy of Locomotive Production

This milestone is part of a massive manufacturing legacy at BLW. Since its inception, the facility has produced a total of 11,531 railway engines, which includes 3,195 electric locomotives. This achievement follows the broader rollout of the Amrit Bharat 3.0 trainsets from the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai in August 2026, aligning with the Railway Ministry's directive to scale up Amrit Bharat Express services across the national network.
