Burhanpur Station to Get Asirgarh Fort-Themed Facelift
Burhanpur Railway Station is set for a massive makeover inspired by Asirgarh Fort under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.

Burhanpur Railway Station is preparing for a spectacular transformation. Under the Indian Railways' Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, the station will be redeveloped to reflect the local cultural and historical essence, specifically drawing architectural inspiration from the legendary Asirgarh Fort.
The Amrit Bharat Vision
This redevelopment is part of a massive national initiative launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The scheme aims to modernize 1,309 railway stations across the country. On August 6, 2023, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stones for 508 stations, backed by a significant investment exceeding ₹24,470 crore.
The primary goals of this redevelopment include:
- Equipping stations with modern passenger amenities.
- Streamlining traffic flow for better efficiency.
- Ensuring seamless inter-modal integration.
- Installing well-designed signage to assist commuters.
Ultimately, the objective is to transform these stations into 'City Centres' that bridge the gap between both sides of the urban landscape.
Infrastructure Expansion in Burhanpur
While the station undergoes its makeover, the district is also witnessing major infrastructure growth. Plans are in motion for the Khandwa-Bhusawal third and fourth railway line projects to increase rail capacity in the region.
Land Acquisition and Local Impact
The expansion has brought about significant changes and challenges for local residents. Public notifications regarding land acquisition for these new lines were issued on October 8 and October 23, 2026.
Significant activity has been noted in the following areas:
- Chinchala Village: On June 17, 2026, approximately 17 houses constructed on railway land were removed to facilitate the Bhusawal-Itarsi rail section project.
- Nepanagar: The situation here has been more complex, with 240 families receiving notices to vacate and demolish their homes for railway expansion. This has sparked protests by affected residents at the district collector's office.
