Cabinet approves ₹24,815 crore railway projects for Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh
The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved two major multi-tracking railway projects in Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh on April 18, 2026. These projects involve a total investment of ₹24,815 crore and aim to expand the existing Indian Railways network by approximately 601 kilometers. This initiative is designed to improve rail connectivity across 15 districts and is part of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.

The projects focus on two high-density corridors that are currently operating beyond their capacity. The Ghaziabad-Sitapur project is essential for the Delhi-Guwahati route, while the Rajahmundry-Visakhapatnam project serves the busy Howrah-Chennai corridor.

Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that these multi-tracking proposals will streamline operations and reduce congestion. The capacity increase will allow for faster movement of essential goods such as coal, cement, steel, and foodgrains. Additionally, the projects will enhance travel options for passengers visiting various tourism and religious sites.
